At the EURAM 2021 Conference, the paper “Leadership for Safety and Resilience: Challenges of Sensemaking Across Organisational Levels” was presented, offering critical insights into the intersection of leadership, safety, and resilience. The study examined the vital role of leadership in cultivating a resilient organisational culture, particularly in industries where safety is a central concern.
The authors explored “sensemaking” as a leadership challenge, where leaders must navigate and interpret complex safety issues across various levels of an organisation to foster resilience effectively. This research highlights how leadership can enable organisations to better anticipate and adapt to potential risks by establishing clear frameworks and communication pathways, thereby promoting a shared understanding of safety objectives among all organisational levels.
